About Lindy
For Four Generations
In 1933, Jacob and Freeda Lindy entered the world of property management. Facing a life-threatening heart condition and unable to secure life insurance for his family, Jacob D. Lindy sought an alternative form of security. That vision led to the creation of Sedgwick Gardens, a luxury apartment community in West Mt. Airy that remains part of the Lindy portfolio to this day.
By 1961, the second generation—Philip Lindy and his brothers Alan and Robert—had constructed more than 2,000 new homes. Throughout the 1960s, ’70s, and ’80s, Philip and his wife, Annabel, expanded Lindy Property Management’s reach across Philadelphia and the surrounding counties.
The 1980s also welcomed the third generation, with Frank and Alan joining the company, followed by their sister Elaine. Lindy Communities broadened its scope with new construction projects like The Enclaves in Center City South; student housing including YoNo and Academia Suites; senior lifestyle housing at The York House; the 100-plus acres of the Meadowbrook Club Community; and the Towers at Wyncote, Pennsylvania’s largest high-rise apartment community.
Proudly Creating Apartment Homes Since 1939
Proudly creating apartment homes since 1939, Lindy Communities has grown into a fourth-generation family housing provider dedicated to the Resident Experience. Environmental responsibility and community engagement are core values, reflected in initiatives such as nine solar-powered rooftops, wind-generated electricity in every community, and resident gas heat and hot water bills averaging under $25 per month.
In recent years, the fourth generation—Jacob and Jeremy—has expanded Lindy Communities’ presence to Florida’s West Coast with Addison at Tampa Oaks and Iris at Northpointe, as well as to Center City Dayton with The View of Dayton Towers. Each property undergoes continual renovations and enhancements to maintain high standards of living.
We have built a reputation for excellence on a foundation of integrity and quality of service.
Today, Lindy Communities stands as Philadelphia’s premier housing provider, serving neighborhoods including Northeast Philadelphia, Center City South, Mt. Airy, Germantown, Oak Lane, and Logan, along with prominent suburban locations such as Warrington, Cheltenham, Abington, and Jeffersonville/Norristown, plus Dayton, Ohio.
The Lindy family’s civic involvement is extensive, including the Drexel University Lindy Center for Lindy Engagement, the Lindy Institute of Urban Solutions, the founding of Jefferson University’s Philadelphia Health Equity Collaborative, the After School Activity Program, The National Liberty Live Like a Hero initiative, and many others. One initiative especially close to the family’s heart is Fiesta School Yards, which brings play spaces to Philadelphia public elementary schools that otherwise lack playgrounds or outdoor amenities.
